Sony is the oldest child of Aigesh and Neela. Aigesh is a watchman and Neela makes a living being a domestic help. They live in a place commonly called a 'basti' - a place with makeshift houses made of mud, no drinking water and bad sewage. Nobody in either one's family has ever gone to a school.
One day, long before Sony was born, Aigesh made a passing comment to us about his desire to educate his children. We worked with Aigesh and Neela for 4 years to keep up their interest in sending Sony, their first born to a school. Sony was trained at home for a couple of years and then sent to a coaching class for the school’s entrance exam. Since 1998 she has been a proud student of one of the most reputed schools in Jameshedpur, India - Chinmaya Vidyalaya. Hats off to Aigesh and Neela who believed in giving Sony a better life - a life unlike theirs. As of 2003, Sony has 2 siblings - all three of them go to the same school.
Sony's literary work on herself goes as follows: “My name is Sony. I have two hands, two legs, two eyes and a tail.” Later they told me, her previous literary work was about a dog!
Update on Sony:Remember Sony?? See a note and the little artist’s creation.
